Abbey Edward (1927-1989)

Edward Paul Abbey (January 29, 1927 – March 14, 1989) was an American author and essayist noted for his advocacy ofenvironmental issues, criticism of public land policies, and anarchist political views.

His best-known works include the novel The Monkey Wrench Gang, which has been cited as an inspiration by radical environmental groups, and the non-fiction work Desert Solitaire.

Edward Paul Abbey was a novelist, journalist, lecturer and university professor „Cactus Ed“ Abbey worte about the American West and the enviroonmental problems created by human exploitation of the region abbey often called for radical methods to remedy environmental ills.

His 1975 novel „The Monkey Wrench Gang, about a group of environmental vigilantes, inspired the founding of the Earth First! organization.

Edward Paul Abbey (* 29. Januar 1927 in Indiana, Pennsylvania; † 14. März 1989 in Tucson, Arizona) war ein amerikanischer Naturforscher, Philosoph und Schriftsteller, der sein Werk dem Südwesten der Vereinigten Staaten widmete. Seine bekanntesten Werke sind Desert Solitaire und der Roman The Monkey Wrench Gang, der radikale Umweltaktivisten inspirierte, u.a. zur Gründung von Earth First! und dem Begriff „Monkeywrenching“.
